The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018), dir. Ethan Coen, Joel Coen.
“We started thinking consciously about what ties them [the stories] together. And clearly that was death. Especially in the last one— the last story in the movie is the last one we wrote and we were thinking, “What is going to feel like a finishing thing for this group?” —
Ethan Coen.
“walking around your room in circles talking to yourself pretending you’re a youtube video essayist/guest star on a talk show presenting and discussing your niche interests and opinions” moodboard
This is so specific and and yet i feel it in every bone in my body
If there was a way to run SUPER MEGA AD BLOCKER on this website I fucking would
“Please oh please open up your computer to a porn virus! If you don’t you’re evil!”
Freeloader Comin’ through!
We didn’t start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).
And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with ‘please turn off adblock’ the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure they’re not installing malware.
Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is “freeloading” is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isn’t freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isn’t cheating the tv network.
Ok y’all, I work as a web developer and I’m here to tell you that you are 100% right and that it’s shit. SO I’m going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if you’re using an adblocker.
Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short it’s a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:
Oh no! I’m blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select the “inspect” feature
Click the three dots in the top right and open the “Settings” Menu
And then scrolled down to “Debugger” and checked the “Disable Javascript Option”
omg i just realized: u know when you really don’t want to study and procrastinate all day, etc.? studying is awful and you don’t want to do it. but. is it really that bad? i think this idea that studying is so boring and not fun is hammered into our mindset - be it from friends, media, … - that you automatically adapt this way of thinking and start to procrastinate. but put it into perspective: it’s probably not that bad, you get to learn something and the sooner you start the earlier you finish. in the midst of all the stress, pressure and annoying teachers (ya know our wonderful education system) we sometimes forget that we should cherish the opportunity of getting an education, which is completely understandable. so fake it till u make it. studying is fun now bitches
Imagine going to the Oracle at Delphi and it’s one of those days where her brain’s overshot the immediate future so all she’s doing is spouting no context memes.
Some Greek statesman: Great Oracle, will my city survive the attack from the Phoenicians?
Oracle, starring at the wall: They did surgery on a grape
Some poor fuck that’s traveled on foot for five days to get there: Might Oracle, how can I save my family from destitution?
Oracle, face down on the tile: To the left, take it back now y'all
This is quite possibly the funniest thing in existence
I looked at a listicle article for “best Vita games” and if you’re going to make a list like that and put persona 4 and Odin sphere on there, the least you can do is also include the sly trilogy.
That’s a pretty good list! I can’t actually name too many Vita games that aren’t available on other systems, I guess the ones I’d recommend would be Hohokum, Proteus, and Roundabout (In that specific order of recommendation). Oh, and Gravity Rush (it’s on PS4 now though and the PS4 version is kind of preferable).
Most of my Vita games are just ports of older games, though, so, like: The Sly trilogy, the Ratchet trilogy (alas, Jak and Daxter runs like a dog on the system and as such isn’t really worth it), Sega Genesis Collection, Capcom Classics Reloaded, Jumping Flash 1+2, Crazy Taxi, Mr Driller, a few of the Oddworld games, the list goes on.
Though despite me saying that you can get most Vita games elsewhere, I think having them be portable (particularly with something like Sly) is such a tremendous improvement as to render the games totally different experiences. IE: I always liked to just run around and pick pockets in Sly 3, but I didn’t really make that my main style of play until I had it in a form where I could do that every bus ride when I had nothing better to do. (Kind of the same deal with Hohokum?)
If I’m being 100% honest with myself, the Sly trilogy is the only reason I bought a Vita (and ya know I had a free Vita copy of Thieves in Time from the cross buy on the PS3). It really got me back into playing the games because it was better than having to dust off the old PS2.
